Site down. My developer has gone AWOL. How do I renew?

Please fill out the fields below so we can help you better. Note: you must provide your domain name to get help. Domain names for issued certificates are all made public in Certificate Transparency logs (e.g. https://crt.sh/?q=example.com), so withholding your domain name here does not increase secrecy, but only makes it harder for us to provide help.

My domain is: www.lhartists.com and certificate has EXPIRED after developer signed up to only 3 months??

It produced this output: Connection not private

My web server is (include version): Not sure

The operating system my web server runs on is (include version): Don’t know

My hosting provider, if applicable, is: Not sure, think its Digital Ocean

I can login to a root shell on my machine (yes or no, or I don’t know): Don’t understand any of these questions??

I’m using a control panel to manage my site (no, or provide the name and version of the control panel):

The version of my client is (e.g. output of certbot --version or certbot-auto --version if you’re using Certbot):

Well, your certificates used to renew every month or two. For some reason, it hasn’t renewed March, the time period in which one would expect the renewal to happen.

Let’s Encrypt certificates are always 90 days valid, so that’s normal. Where is your developer now? Can’t he/she renew it for you?

No he has not answered us. And my site is down so I have to sort it myself. We are on Digital Ocean now and we are on a window that requests ‘Bring our Own Certificate’ or other option ‘Use Lets Encrypt’
What do we do next? Thank you for your help, please understand I am not techy at all, and wording I do not understand. Sorry.

That's a good option I recon. Note: I have no experience with Digital Ocean. No clue how it works exactly. I only know you used to have plenty of Let's Encrypt certificates.

How can I move forward with this then. It won’t let me create a new one.

Sorry, my crystal ball has fallen onto the floor just know and is broken. I can’t magically look at your Digital Ocean configuration panel now. I need you to give me any helpful information. Like error messages, warnings, screenshots, whatever you might find.

That being said, perhaps it’s even more straightforward to just ask Digital Ocean for help with this.

I was only asking what I can do to help move forward.

Firstly when I went on my website, I received notification that Connection was Not Private. How can I attach screenshots, I tried to drag and paste but this was not allowed.

I also do not know about Digital Ocean other than that our developer had used them. And they automatically use Lets Encrypt

Like I said, I don't have any experience with Digital Ocean.

The 7th icon from the left (the bar with arrow pointing up) allows you to upload pictures.

Thank you.

By the way re Digital Ocean we only know of because our developer had mentioned years ago he had used them ‘developer cloud’. And they automatically use Lets Encrypt.

Well, that particular error message we can also see when surfing to your site. So that isn't very helpful I'm afraid.

However, you did mention this a few posts ago:

It would be helpful to know/see what happens when you click on "Use Lets Encrypt".

Oh I’m sorry I also uploaded

There is nothing else to show you.

When we clicked ‘Use Lets Encrypt’, it just wouldn’t recognise the information that was entered an therefore we couldn’t move forward.

This is also something we could see in our own browsers.

It's really, really important for you to understand how this works. For you, what that panel said might look unimportant. It might also be unimportant. But there's also a good chance that what that panel gives back as information when you click on something is key to solve your problem. We really need to you to tell us what the panel exactly gave for feedback or take a screenshot of it.

The name is of our developer.

I can only upload one at a time.

Option for Bring Your Own Certificate invites you to enter info into fields. None of the information we have

Strange it can't find your domain. Perhaps if you try it without the www. in front of it?

We removed the www. and it took us to here. Unsure whether to click continue,

As far as I can tell, your domain name is already managed by Digital Ocean? This is for example an excerpt from a DNS request for your site:

lhartists.com. 172800	IN	NS	ns1.digitalocean.com.
lhartists.com. 172800	IN	NS	ns2.digitalocean.com.
lhartists.com. 172800	IN	NS	ns3.digitalocean.com.

So your domain is already managed by the Digital Ocean nameservers.

No we have a domain host elsewhere ’ tsohost ’

Not lhartists.com.. That one is hosted 100 % by Digital Ocean.

Its registar is Registrar URL: http://paragonnames.com

Perhaps that’s the confusion. Registar is not the same as the company which hosts the DNS servers.

We do not renew the domain via Digital Ocean, we renew it via ‘tsohost’. Though the name server is
ns1.digitalocean.com. Is this image useful to you?
