How to renew certificate

I ran this command: What command? I have zero instructions on how to even renew my SSL. There's absolutely NOTHING in the documentation, so I have no clue where to begin.

The operating system my web server runs on is (include version): linux 2.6.32-954.3.5.lve1.4.82.el6.x86_64

My hosting provider, if applicable, is: mediatemple.net

I can login to a root shell on my machine (yes or no, or I don't know): yes

I'm using a control panel to manage my site (no, or provide the name and version of the control panel): cpanel 94.0.19

The version of my client is (e.g. output of certbot --version or certbot-auto --version if you're using Certbot): I don't even know what this is or where to run it. certainly not working in SSH.

I am just curious did you receive an email from Let's Encrypt warning you about an upcoming expiration?

Usually you renew a cert in a similar way to how you created the original. I see you created one cert on Nov22 2021. Did you follow instructions provided by your hosting provider? I found the below link on their site. Were these the instructions you followed?

Hi Mike, yes I received an email with 11 days notice (not the 30 days Let's Encrypt actually recommends). This is my first time seeing this actually. When I initially created it, the instructions were outdated. I had never created a cert before, so had no clue how to renew it. I thought perhaps I ran a command or something. I just talked to my host support and these instructions don't apply to me. So I'm on a shared server and apparently don't have root access.

OK. Let us know if that does not work out. Let's Encrypt first sends a renewal notice 20 days before, then 10 days and last at 1 day before expiry.

Emails are sent on a 'best efforts' basis and it is not recommended to rely solely on these warning emails to know when to renew. Many ACME clients (the programs that request certs from Let's Encrypt) have built-in auto-renew systems. As you note, usually renewals are done 30 days in advance so LE has no need to send them warning emails unless something has gone wrong. Which is the main reason for the emails.

No, I definitely don't rely on other people to remind me to take care of my own business. I just thought it weird. But now I know why. I understand now that I just need to follow the initial process again to set it up. I'm thinking I might just pay the $75 per year to let my host manage this. I've got too much I'm trying to do. Thanks for jumping on this so quickly. Appreciate your help!

Who has set up your certificate in the first place? If you did that yourself, how exactly? Did you click a button on your cPanel control panel or something similar? Because usually renewals would take place automatically when set up through cPanel.. But perhaps you were required to do more than just click one button? I'm interested to hear how your initial set up went, as it might explain why it's not renewing automatically..

Also, I'm a little bit confused:

So to make it absolutely clear, you don't have root access on your server? If so, please correct your original post. :slight_smile:

What kind of access do you have? In your OP you say "certainly not working in SSH", so that suggests you only manage your site through cPanel? Is that correct?
