Hello
For my website , my previous developer had created and installed SSL certificate. Now he is not reachable and I received a mail from Let’s encrypt as follows. How do I renew it ? I dont have much of technical understanding , Please help Regards
Hello,
Your certificate (or certificates) for the names listed below will expire in 10 days (on 23 Jun 16 03:15 +0000). Please make sure to renew your certificate before then, or visitors to your website will encounter errors.
Can you provide a little information about your website ?
Is it hosted on a dedicated server ? or a shared hosting server ? can you tell us which provider ?
Do you know the operating system for your website server ?
Do you have a “control panel” for accessing / controlling your website ?
If you don’t know any of there - are you happy to provide your domain name ?
Hi
Thanks for the quick response
the website is getmba.info
The server is a dedicated server ( hosted on digital ocean )
I have access to the files through SFTP , I dont know about the operating system of the website server
Regards
Can you access the server and check (SFTP is fine ) if there are files in /etc/letsencrypt/live/getmba.info ?
The reason I’m asking that, is if they are in that location then your developer probably used the “letsencrypt” client ( now called “certbot” ) to obtain your certificate - so gives clues as to how you should renew it.
Hi I asked the current developer and he says yes there are 4 files
Hi - if you are in touch with the developer, then the easiest way is to ask / check with him (it saves us trying to work out what he did ).
What did he use to create the certificates in the first place ? I assume he used the main letsencrypt client ( now certbot) from what you have said so far - if you can confirm with him that would be great though. I assume he didn’t set it up to auto-renew (if he did, then you should be OK). If not, then we can go through setting up auto-renewal using certbot.
The current developer is a new developer… I am not in touch with the previous developer. However I have asked the new developer to look at it. Please tell me how to set up auto renewal using certbot ?
The documentation for certbot renewal shows the command simply as “certbot renew” it does depend on the original method setup though. It should all just work, but may need a couple of tweeks. You may need to (or get the new developer) to update the version of letsencrypt / certbot first though.
Thank you very much. I will try to effect it through the new developer . Or else I will get in touch here again
