I ran this command:
sudo -H /usr/local/sbin/certbot-auto renew
It produced this output:

Cert is due for renewal, auto-renewing…

Attempting to renew cert from /etc/letsencrypt/renewal/larsongeneral.com.conf produced an unexpected error: Problem binding to port 443: Could not bind to IPv4 or IPv6… Skipping.

shutting down nginx and then renewing and restarting nginx fixed the problem
