NGINX on Ubuntu with CERTBOT, HTTPS not working

I managed to get the certificates... http is working fine, but https gets constantly a timeout. Im new to deploy with certbot so any help will be welcome! Thanks in advance!

I edited your post for clarity.

Your certificate seems to work just fine - it's just that your server isn't producing an HTTP response afterwards.

What seems most probable is that your server is waiting for a response from, but that server doesn't seem to be responding on port 80

I would double-check that the remote server is setup correctly, and investigate whether it's suitable for you to setup a proxy_connect_timeout so your server doesn't sit there hanging pointlessly.


I would suggest you to take a backup of your Nginx folder /etc/nginx before you do anything described in the following paragraph.

I assume you are trying to use your tomcat server, which is deployed locally to serve requests, so I did some work and help you merged both configuration.

/etc/nginx/sites-enabled/tomcat.conf, if you have this you should remove /etc/nginx/conf.d/apiapp.admision.conf.

The only feedback I have to offer is:

  • Single server blocks with multiple listens tend to get mangled more easily by certbot
  • Using multiple server blocks can offer certain optimalities like shorter/clearer code and avoiding unnecessary conditional checks (e.g. no need to check for ssl protocol when only listening to ssl)
