Any harm if we don't provide an email?

I’ve been searching through this community and the FAQ, but I can’t find an answer.

I understand that the email we provide to let’s encrypt is used for renewal reminders. But apart from that, If I keep my own renewal schedule, is there any harm on not providing the email?

Is there any benefit on providing the email? I saw it’s possible to revoke certificates even without the email.

Thanks!

In the past the email address has been used to get in contact with people who had Let’s Encrypt clients that were misbehaving.

It’s probably good manners to register your email.

It’s a bit unfortunate that the email subscription is tied to the account registration. In one project we had to not provide email addresses because we are registering accounts on peoples’ behalves and are handling email reminders ourselves - the extra emails would have been confusing. There doesn’t seem to be any way to preemptively unsubscribe.
