Wix wildcard SSL for externally hosted site

Please fill out the fields below so we can help you better. Note: you must provide your domain name to get help. Domain names for issued certificates are all made public in Certificate Transparency logs (e.g. crt.sh | example.com), so withholding your domain name here does not increase secrecy, but only makes it harder for us to provide help.

My domain is: abundancemine.club

I ran this command:

It produced this output:

My web server is (include version): wix

The operating system my web server runs on is (include version): wix

My hosting provider, if applicable, is: wix

I can login to a root shell on my machine (yes or no, or I don't know): no

I'm using a control panel to manage my site (no, or provide the name and version of the control panel): wix

I need to create a wildcard SSL certificate for a sub domain hosted outside of wix.
The external host sent me this message:

"Please use the CSR below to create your CRT. If asked, choose Apache as the server type. Send me back the CRT here in a reply and we will complete the setup for you.
-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST-----
....
-----END CERTIFICATE REQUEST-----

I sent this information to Wix and they replied:

"I'd like to inform you that currently, Wix does not support third party SSL certificates. Therefore, we are unable to generate CSR files. "

Then I sent back to Wix:
Please forgive me for not being clear on how to proceed or Wix's method for solving this issue to giving me a secure subdomain. In doing research on wix I found that Wix's information there are 2 points that led me to setting up the secure sub domain.

  1. I can make a sub domain on wix that is hosted external to wix.

Contact the host of the external resource/site (e.g., WordPress) and ask them for the DNS record required to point to that resource/site.

  • Add the record (an A record or a CNAME record) in the domains section of your Wix account (as instructed below).

This step I completed.

  1. That Wix automatically sets up SSL for subdomains connected to my site.

"Wix also automatically generates a certificate for each custom domain and subdomain connected to your site."

On this step I am now confused about how to proceed.

You said that "... Wix does not support third party SSL certificates. Therefore, we are unable to generate CSR files. " and this does not explain how I can proceed to point a my subdomain that you do support and also have it be secured domain with SSL.

In my research on generating SSL certificate and found that Wix does support 3rd party SSL certificates from https://letsencrypt.org/ that generates SSL certificates for free. Here Wix is listed as supporting the non shell implementation of the SSLs generated there.

Wix is listed here:

Please explain how I secure my subdomain will SSL that I have to point to my domain when Wix is my domain register but is hosted externally.

Do I generate the SSL with LetsEncrypt and send you some information?

Now I am stuck and do not know what to do.....

Hi,

I’m sorry but I’m unclear what certificate are you trying to generate?
Are you trying to generate a wildcard certificate for subdomains hosted outside wix (the main domain is on wix?)?

Thank you

If you’ve just had a DNS record for a subdomain pointed to a server that’s not hosted by Wix, then Wix probably won’t be involved in the subdomain’s certificate issuance or installation process in any way. Instead, you’ll have to use Let’s Encrypt client software on the server for the subdomain to request and install the certificate. It’s not something that Wix’s support or infrastructure would handle.
