I want to add LE cert to my Synology NAS device with the DSM built-in wizard, but during the setup I got “The operation failed. Please log in to DSM again and retry” error message. I have 80 and 443 ports open and forwarded. In my browser my site loads successfully.
I checked the /var/log/messages file, and that’s what I found:
My domain is: [putnamehere].synology.me
I ran this command: I ran no command at all, just the dsm web based built in wizard.
It produced this output: -
My operating system is (include version): DSM 6.1.1.
My web server is (include version): Apache 2.2
My hosting provider, if applicable, is: -
I can login to a root shell on my machine (yes or no, or I don’t know): yes
I’m using a control panel to manage my site (no, or provide the name and version of the control panel): no
I have just tried to register LE with my own purchased domain and it’s 100% working.
So it’s something about Synology domains: synology.me, i234.me, myds.me …
But back in the days I had able to register LE with a [putnamehere].myds.me domain.
The Synology DSM Wizzard is developed by them. When 3rd Parties develop plugins it’s hard to troubleshoot errors unless they have the source code that is open source.
The second challenge is that DSM runs on synology equipment only so testing it is quite hard without a synology box.
I would suggest posting this question in the Synology forums as it will most likely have people who can assist you.
