I’ve noticed a lot of people who use Nginx with Certbot are still using the --webroot method, even if they’re new to Certbot. I suspect there are a lot of outdated tutorials out there that recommend webroot. If you’re looking for a project, it would be useful to try and find some of these tutorials and ask their authors to update the content!

Emailed the contact address for the tutorial at https://poweruphosting.com/blog/secure-nginx-with-lets-encrypt/ that is mostly great, but still recommends webroot. It’s one of the earlier Google results for “lets encrypt nginx tutorial”. Will update with anything I hear back.
