How does the limit expiration work for requesting certificates?

I’m setting up a server and was having issues with the setup, so kept blowing it away and starting again. It’s my first time using lets encrypt/certbot & I found out I hit the limit for certificates requested.

I get I screwed up, so I’m waiting, just wondering if I should just try once a day to see if the limit has been lifted, or if hitting the 5 certs just locks it for a week? or if it just locks it until the first cert request is a week old and allows me to request one more.

Basically how long should I wait to request a new cert.

https://tools.letsdebug.net/cert-search will give you an exact date when your rate limit will lift.

Additional attempts while the rate limit is in effect will not extend your rate limit.
