Create a domain issued certificate

Hello,
I have recently bought a domain name and I would like to generate a domain issued certificate against this domain. From my understanding, a domain issued certificate is one which has the domain name mentioned as CN in the certificate.

Could anyone please help clarify the following:

  1. Is my understanding of domain issued certificate correct
  2. How could I generate one using certbot?

Congratulations! You've come to the right place!

That's sortof correct. The (sub)domain name must be listed as a subject alternative name (SAN) in the certificate. The common name (CN) field is technically obsolete and will just be one of the SANs.
