Certificate expiring; host is unaccessible

Dear TCM,

I have already try to get professional support with OVH (France) and they told me to see directly with lets encrypt !
I had emails lets encrypt regarding my problem and they told me that “we do not provide support at this address, I recommend asking on our community forum”. That’s why Im here on this forum.

This friend is now, no more a friend that’s all you need to know. So I am not trying to “save a buck on support” as you said.

Whatever …

Thank you Serverco for your help.

Sam,

The problem here is that you are hosting your website on a platform that expects its users to be able to be their own SysAdmin. Clearly, you are not a sysadmin. Instead you have(had) a friend who did that for you. Well, your ‘friend’ is gone now so you need to either find another friend who understands these things or hire professional help.

It seems to me from your last message that you DID NOT contact OVH and ask them the questions that Serverco said you needed to ask. Asking how to restore access to your server would not involve Let’s Encrypt so …

You need to spend the money to properly host your website is the point that TCM was trying to make. You now have a webserver that will not function properly in less than 12 hours due to not having the knowledge to properly maintain it.

To answer your question about your website - it will still function but most (or all - depending on how it is set up) visitors will be told that your site is not secure and MOST people will shy away with concerns of fraud on the internet.

So … you are in a real mess now. If you will contact OVH with the specific question(s) Serverco asked, maybe this thread can move forward. But without access to your server nothing can be done. You will need to find someone to help you who understands the basics. Good luck!

Hi Sam,

as Alento says, the question to ask OVH (France) is “how do I access my server, using SSH or a control panel” That has nothing to do with Let’s Encrypt.

Once you have access to your server, we can potentially help renew your certificate.

Dear Alento,
Dear Serverco,

Thank you all for your help. Yesterday, when Serverco told me to ask OVH about “your hosting provider about how to access your server. Maybe they can reset the password for you? or provide to some control panel you have ? or something like that.” It was past midnight in France of I can’t call OVH … But whatever

Unfortunatly, I have called OVH France again this morning and they told me that they can do nothing for me … It’s really weird because I pay OVH for a security of my website but they can do nothing ! I am really mad against them … But whatever, now my website is showing error since the expiration of my certificate because I haven’t found any solutions … Just hope that nobody will visit my website during this time … Now, I am trying to find a friend of friends (…) to help me regarding all the support that I need.

Thank you

Sam

OVH can’t help you because you’re not buying the service “online shop” from them. You are buying the service “unmanaged server” which means all management of it is your responsibility. How exactly did you end up at OVH? Was it also your friend’s idea? I don’t actually think that OVH would sell you a totally inappropriate service and leave you alone with it unless you asked for it.

Hi @samvmh,

What specifically did you ask OVH about? If you asked them to help fix your Let’s Encrypt certificate, they will probably say they can’t help you. However, if you say “I need to restore SSH access to my server,” they may be able to help you.
