Accidental email unsubscribe

I accidentally unsubscribed my email address while trying to copy the text of your email so I could send it to my service provider. They are supposed to be renewing my certificates as they host my 2 websites but I keep getting the notices even thought they (Viux) said they’ve fixed it and I won’t be getting any more notices. Now I see there’s no way to resubscribe? I don’t have an account with you, how am I supposed to resume getting notices so I can make sure my provider is doing the renewals? Why would you not have a way to undo a subscription renewal?

Sorry to hear of your mishap. But, someone has an account. They are the ones that would need to re-subscribe you. Perhaps they can follow the instructions outlined in below topic?

That said, these emails are just a friendly reminder and are not intended as a critical monitoring system. There are many ways to monitor your certs and website. Perhaps your service provider offers one or can suggest one?

The unsubscribe is only effective for a year so you could just manually check the renewal every couple months during the next year.

Your response is not helpful. I don’t have an account with you. I have 2 websites hosted by Viux and they haven’t been renewing my encryption certificates correctly obviously because I keep getting these expiration emails from you even though Viux says they’ve fixed it and are handling the it?!? I LIKE getting the expiration emails from you because it alerts me to the fact that Viux isn’t doing their job! How do I undo the email unsubscribe I accidentally did?

Did you read the post/link?

Do you have root access to the server that hosts your web site?

Thanks for responding so quickly. Like I said, I have 2 websites hosted by Viux Systems. I’m paying them to handle all of this stuff and obviously they aren’t doing their jobs because I repeatedly have had to deal with these certificate renewals when Viux is supposed to be doing it. In the last couple years I’ve opened multiple support tickets with them - basically every time I would get one of your reminder emails and I would say to Viux “Why aren’t you doing this renewal? Why am I having to deal with this?!” And they would get back to me and say “The problem has been fixed. You won’t be receiving any more notices.” But sure enough, a few months later I would get another expiration email and I’d have to send ANOTHER support ticket to Viux and go through this whole procedure again…

Sounds like you need a better HSP.

I am also sorry to hear you are not happy with your hosting provider (now BoomHost apparently).

But, only the Let's Encrypt ACME account holder can modify the email associated with that account. You say you don't have the account so your hosting service must.

If they can't modify that email address per the link I provided you will have to monitor your certs manually. Perhaps use a site like this SSL Checker every 60-70 days to make sure your certs are renewed. Let's Encrypt certs expire after 90 days and the standard is to renew after 60 days.

In a year you should resume getting these warning emails.

With such chronic problems I would personally look to move to a different hosting service.

I’m not an IT person. Viux is supposed to be handling all of this on my 2 websites - it’s what I’m paying them for. The first time I got one of these notices, I think I was able to renew the certificates myself through Plesk? But I really didn’t know what the heck I was doing. Viux is SUPPOSED to be doing it and they suck obviously. I just need to keep getting the emails so I can check to make sure Viux is doing their job and I accidentally hit the unsubscribe link while trying to copy the body of your expiration notice email to send to Viux and ask Viux “WHY am I still getting these damn notices?!? Why aren’t you doing what I’m paying you for Viux?!”

You don't need them. They may be handy but you can readily check with other methods. See my previous post - we cross-posted.

And yet, you are NOT getting what you are paying for.

I'd speak with my wallet and let them know that, if this continues, I will move to another HSP.
OR
Be done with them and just move to another HSP.
[you owe them nothing]

Yeah, you are probably right about moving to a different provider. I’ve been with Viux for probably close to 20 years and it’s been generally good and very inexpensive. However, it’s been ridiculous the last year! Last November, both websites and my email went down for SEVERAL WEEKS! I kept sending tickets and asking what the heck was going on and they kept saying they were doing some kind of merging of their systems and it would be fixed as soon as possible. I almost left then, but they did finally fix it and everything has been fine since. These 2 websites are just for reference and basically sit there, so I don’t need and certainly don’t want to pay for some fancy hosting with all kinds of bells and whistles I don’t need. I’m sure the issue probably has arisen again because of the Boomhost takeover. I’ve already opened a ticket with Boomhost (even though I don’t have an account there - only with Viux) because my support ticket I opened in the Viux portal is receiving no response. Boomhost sent out an email a few weeks ago so I knew about the acquisition, but they specifically said that nothing would change for me the customer…well, apparently that isn’t true because here I am having to deal with these certificate expirations again.

Right. I’m going to see what Boomhost does about this, because my support ticket I opened in the Viux portal is just sitting there. Boomhost did respond to my support ticket even though I don’t have an account set up with them, just Viux.

Ok, thanks…hopefully Boomhost will fix this and do a better job than Viux has!

Thanks for that SSL Checker…that’ll work. I’m not IT but I am tech savvy and can usually figure this stuff out, but it’s just irritating to have to keep doing the HSP’s job for them. Thanks for the help!

While paying them [to do nothing]!

Yep. It just seems like such a pain to switch to someone else…I’ve never done it before and though tech savvy, I don’t really know what I’m doing with something like switching to a different HSP LOL. Viux was the first and only HSP I’ve ever used. I set these websites up with the 20 years ago.

*with Viux 20 years ago.

Any suggestions for a different HSP for my 2 websites (waltwise.com & cpentertainment.us) that are basically for reference and just kind of sit there, and also my 2 @waltwise.com email addresses? I’m paying $56.40/annually and GENERALLY LOL everything has run ok with Viux over this 20 years period…?

I just need to park these websites for reference, though I do update the content periodically and the calendar, and I use Smartermail for the email tied to my waltwise.com account.

Your cert history is definitely erratic. And, getting certs with different combinations of names will cause more expiry emails. Each unique set of names in a cert looks like a different one to Let's Encrypt.

From: https://crt.sh/?Identity=waltwise.com&deduplicate=Y
Is this:

You have gotten wildcard and non-wildcard certs (more recently non). And, a couple times a cert with just waltwise.com in it (not the www subdomain).

Whoever is requesting the certs (them or you with Plesk) should take care to use the same procedure each time to avoid this extra confusion.

Thanks for the help Mike. Boomhost got back to me and it appears they are on top of it…
