Snap is going away [April Fool]

The gods have answered my prayers - Ubuntu is ditching snap:

I hope this inspires the Certbot team to finally make installation practical without snap.

Using snap never meant they liked it :wink:

There just wasn't enough manpower to package certbot in all the "appropriate" ways.

APRIL FIRST? YOU SERIOUS?

Sigh. I wish. Take systemd with it too. Good riddance to both, but unfortunately, wishful thinking ...

I'm admittedly not an expert on packaging, but isn't setting up a PPA the best practice for this use case?

That only works for Ubuntu (and maybe Debian)

@odigity You realise it wasn't a serious article you're linking?

On a more serious note:

Next to snap, Certbot has alternative methods of installing:

  • Most distributions also have Certbot packaged using their regular package manager;
  • You could use pip (in a venv!)

And it has snap.

So you have a choice. You're not forced to use snap.

I'm enclined to closeclosing this thread as a "troll".
