this environment is for development (internal) only.

FYI --- there is no application running on 443 but however we have internal API between the servers. Do I need to wait for a few days till the certificate is expired and tested it through the two servers (API)? any other option?

No. Just change the port number in the openssl command to whatever your server is configured to use.
