Problem binding to port 80: [WinError 10013] An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions

Please fill out the fields below so we can help you better. Note: you must provide your domain name to get help. Domain names for issued certificates are all made public in Certificate Transparency logs (e.g. crt.sh | example.com), so withholding your domain name here does not increase secrecy, but only makes it harder for us to provide help.

You're probably trying to use certbot on Windows in self-hosting/standlone mode, this requires port 80 to not be in use. Are you using IIS or Apache/nginx as your webserver?

If IIS, try https://certifytheweb.com as your ACME client:

  • create a normal http binding in IIS with your domain as the hostname
  • Run Certify The Web > New Certificate, select your IIS site, click Request Certificate.. If that all works ok your certificate will automatically renew.

You could also try win-acme if you prefer the command line.

If you are using Apache/nginx you can just use certbot but you need to stop them first to free up port 80.
