Private Server SSL connection

Just wondering if I use letsencrpyt to generate certificates on a server that is behind a firewall (has internet access, but the server is private) as I need SSL encrypted connection for Filemaker clients, will this work or does the server need to have a public DNS ?

As it’s only accessible from a private LAN, should I make the DNS record the private IP address ?

It’s fine to create certificates for servers that are not publicly accessible. It just means that you need to use DNS validation rather than HTTP validation. Have a look at to see the difference.
