Please fill out the fields below so we can help you better. Note: you must provide your domain name to get help. Domain names for issued certificates are all made public in Certificate Transparency logs (e.g. https://crt.sh/?q=example.com), so withholding your domain name here does not increase secrecy, but only makes it harder for us to provide help.
that is a very good question. I have no idea how it was install in the first place. I purchased the domain(misevents.sg) from Godaddy and I checked the SSL certificate is already applied from Let encrypt. Thanks.
Edit: OK, I just realized your site is hosted by Wix, not GoDaddy (who are your domain registrar). They are taking care of SSL for you - you don’t need to worry about it.
So, you intend to move from your current Wix website to a WordPress website hosted by GoDaddy.
The main challenge with GoDaddy hosting is that they don’t really support an easy way to use Let’s Encrypt unless you are using one of their VPS hosting products.
There are plenty of other web hosts that feature easy to use Let’s Encrypt integrations, if changing hosts is an option at this point.
If not, you could try something like this Let’s Encrypt + GoDaddy shared hosting tutorial: https://tryingtobeawesome.com/encryptdaddy/ , which should get an automaticlly renewing certificate for you.
If that doesn’t work out, things like https://zerossl.com exists which will allow you to manually get a certificate, but would require you to manually renew it every 60-89 days, which is a bit inconvenient - Let’s Encrypt is meant to be used in an automated way.
If you’re not comfortable doing this kind of thing on your own, then it may be worthwhile just buying a long-duration DV certificate from a commercial CA (like Namecheap or GoDaddy or SSLs.com).
Thank you so much for your prompt reply and advise. I’m not so tech savy myself.
We intend to host the website using godaddy. When customer make payment – it will redirect to Eventbrite.com. We have an event publish in Eventbrite. In this case, when we only need to buy hosting plan from Godaddy. No need to buy SSL cert from godaddy since Eventbrite have already the SSL cert ?
I wouldn’t recommend GoDaddy if you wanted to use Let’s Encrypt, because i’m not sure if they have the Let’s Encrypt plugin that auto renews for you. I’m pretty sure that they only let you use the GoDaddy issued certificates if you want a plugin to auto renew. Otherwise, as listed in other parts of this forum, you will need to install it manually each time it needs to be renewed.
There are many other choices that offer easy Let’s Encrypt installation, just ask the web hosting company of choice about it. If you would still like to use GoDaddy, you can watch this video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPcznB74GPs. I wish you good luck with your blog!
