How to create new ACME account in ubuntu 16.0.4

#1

Hi ,

Can you tell me the sequence of commands for create acme account and get certificates for multiple (1000) domain using the created account.

Certbot handles account registration for you, you don’t need to do anything explicitly.

If you need certificates for thousands of domains, you need to plan an organization strategy.

If you want to use 1 certificate per domain, you’re going to need to do it slowly in order to deal with rate limits: https://letsencrypt.org/docs/rate-limits/

Or you can put multiple domains on one certificate (up to 100 per certificate), in which case you’d only need to create 10 certificates to cover 1000 domains.

You also need to figure out how to authenticate all of these domains. Do they all point to your webserver? What webserver do you use? Or do you control their DNS?

All will point to same Apache2 server in ubuntu 16.0.4.

DNS won’t be controlled by me.

Well, naively, you could try:

certbot certonly -a apache -d domain-1.org -d domain-2.org -d domain-3.org -d domain-4.org -d domain-5.org -d domain-6.org -d domain-7.org -d domain-8.org -d domain-9.org -d domain-10.org -d domain-11.org -d domain-12.org -d domain-13.org -d domain-14.org -d domain-15.org -d domain-16.org -d domain-17.org -d domain-18.org -d domain-19.org -d domain-20.org -d domain-21.org -d domain-22.org -d domain-23.org -d domain-24.org -d domain-25.org -d domain-26.org -d domain-27.org -d domain-28.org -d domain-29.org -d domain-30.org -d domain-31.org -d domain-32.org -d domain-33.org -d domain-34.org -d domain-35.org -d domain-36.org -d domain-37.org -d domain-38.org -d domain-39.org -d domain-40.org -d domain-41.org -d domain-42.org -d domain-43.org -d domain-44.org -d domain-45.org -d domain-46.org -d domain-47.org -d domain-48.org -d domain-49.org -d domain-50.org -d domain-51.org -d domain-52.org -d domain-53.org -d domain-54.org -d domain-55.org -d domain-56.org -d domain-57.org -d domain-58.org -d domain-59.org -d domain-60.org -d domain-61.org -d domain-62.org -d domain-63.org -d domain-64.org -d domain-65.org -d domain-66.org -d domain-67.org -d domain-68.org -d domain-69.org -d domain-70.org -d domain-71.org -d domain-72.org -d domain-73.org -d domain-74.org -d domain-75.org -d domain-76.org -d domain-77.org -d domain-78.org -d domain-79.org -d domain-80.org -d domain-81.org -d domain-82.org -d domain-83.org -d domain-84.org -d domain-85.org -d domain-86.org -d domain-87.org -d domain-88.org -d domain-89.org -d domain-90.org -d domain-91.org -d domain-92.org -d domain-93.org -d domain-94.org -d domain-95.org -d domain-96.org -d domain-97.org -d domain-98.org -d domain-99.org -d domain-100.org

until you have enough groups of 100-name certificates until you covered all your domains, but a lot of the details will depend on how you to intend to organize things.

#5

Since you don’t control DNS, and you are running Apache2, you will need to accept HTTP authentication requests (TCP port 80).

#6

How many accounts will be created on the above command?

how to create account?

how to install certificate using account?

any benefits if I get certificates using account?

#7

Certbot automatically registers an account the first time you use it. That command and any subsequent commands will use the one account.
