It isn’t the script ( and in many ways has nothing do to with the LE script). It is an old linux bug that was not patched on your server, and needs patching. If you can access the main terminal via VNC then you can reboot in a recovery mode and patch it. exactly how depends on the OS you are using, I’m assuming ubuntu of some version, if so then you can enter recovery mode at the GRUB boot time.
