Just don’t want to use 1 try without knowing…
It’s not strictly necessary - you can set things up to avoid it.
I would say the rule of thumb is: if you are going to create a DNS record for the www.
subdomain in the first place, then you should also include it on the certificate.
It makes things more straightforward and predictable for everyone.
Edit: to clarify, I mean you should get one certificate which covers both example.com
and www.example.com
.
