Certbot and nginx

I have an internal server which has a public address that I can ping from outside. I do not get a ping response but I expect ping is turned off. But the hostname resolves to the outside address.

when i run on the linus nginx server sudo certbot --nginx

It does show me the domain, I select the number and after a while i get an failed message.
Hint: The Certificate Authority failed to verify the temporary nginx configuration changes made by Certbot. Ensure the listed domains point to this nginx server and that its accessible from the internet.
im abit confused about domain name and host name.

When you opened this thread in the Help section, you should have been provided with a questionnaire. Maybe you didn't get it somehow (which is weird), or you've decided to delete it (and make our life a lot harder). In any case, all the answers to this questionnaire are required:

Please fill out the fields below so we can help you better. Note: you must provide your domain name to get help. Domain names for issued certificates are all made public in Certificate Transparency logs (e.g. crt.sh | example.com), so withholding your domain name here does not increase secrecy, but only makes it harder for us to provide help.
