Cannot register a name that is already registered to old dead router

Please fill out the fields below so we can help you better. Note: you must provide your domain name to get help. Domain names for issued certificates are all made public in Certificate Transparency logs (e.g. https://crt.sh/?q=example.com), so withholding your domain name here does not increase secrecy, but only makes it harder for us to provide help.

My domain is: autovity.asuscomm.com

I ran this command: used the DDNS service on the Asus router

It produced this output: This domain name 'autovity.asuscomm.com' has been registered. Please use a new domain name.

My web server is (include version): n/a

The operating system my web server runs on is (include version): asus router firmware

Hi, I registered this domain name for the certificate on my old asus router that died. I have been trying to re-register but it tells me that since I already have registered it once, it cannot be re-registered.

Would you kindly provide some guidance on how I can still use this name?

autovity.asuscomm.com

Thanks!

I think you would need to contact ASUS, as they are the ones responsible for name assignment.

According to this thread, if the old router isn't completely dead, you should be able to disable DDNS on it to release the name as well.

I don't think that a Let's Encrypt forum will be able to help you with an ASUS issue.
