This brings into play the incredibly ironic (and IMO ridiculous) fact that --dry-run doesn't work with the run command, but it does work with the renew command. What is so different between the execution processes of run and renew that justifies this discrepancy?

This ( --dry-run ) can currently only be used with the 'certonly' and 'renew' subcommands.

run implies also installing something. With --dry-run the fake cert isn't saved to disk, so there's nothing to install.
