The problem is either:

  • previously renewed using --standalone and it now conflicts with the running web server [highly likely]
  • nginx failed to fully stop (for some unknow reason) and now fails to start because it is already started [not likely]
  • you have installed multiple web servers (like: Apache and nginx) and now they conflict with each other [slightly possible]

You might benefit from an increased --nginx-sleep-seconds. Its default value is just one second, but maybe a few more seconds might do the trick. For example, --nginx-sleep-seconds 10.

Just add the option I showed you to the command you're using now.

Please be more verbose with your posts. I have no idea what you've done now what is resulting in that error.

If you just copy/paste a single error containing just one letter with three words without any context or accompanying explanation, people are likely to drop out to help you further.

Ah, I see. I didn't say it clearly indeed for which I apologize. I meant to add the option --nginx-sleep-seconds 10 to the certbot command you're using. Note that this includes the dashes (-).

Then you can restart the server (if that is problem related) [slim chance]
OR verify that your nginx config is good.

Please show the output of:
nginx -T

also... how did you install nginx ?
[maybe cerbot doesn't see your nginx installed]

In the file:

Please change this line:
include /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/*;
to:
include /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/*.conf;

[then restart nginx]
