My client is looking for public/private certificate key pairs for their SSL. Does someone know where to locate this?
hmm...
Depends on how they obtained their cert.
So... how did they get it?
Issued by squarespace
Then you may need to speak with them about that.
[not likely that they will provide it - if obtained and installed by them on their server]
And... why do they need it?
Maybe I misunderstood...
Are they looking for the cert files of an existing cert [on their site]?
OR
Are they looking to get a new cert [for their site]?
Just looking to get the public and private ket pairs for current SSL.
Well, then, as I said: If the current cert was obtained by SquareSpace, then it may likely be a cert that contains multiple domains. If so, they are NOT going to provide anyone the private key for it.
And even if the cert is only for one domain, they may still NOT want to provide it. [I wouldn't]
The public cert can be obtained directly from the site OR from public records.
In all cases, only SquareSpace [or a server admin] has the required access to those files.
There is nothing LE can do you retrieve/recreate a private key.
ok. Thanks for helping.
To add on this: the private key is NOT send to Let's Encrypt, but is generated at the client side and never shared.
