Is it true that letsencrypt no longer supports older Android?

Android added support for Let’s Encrypt in version 7.1.1.

As a transition mechanism, Let’s Encrypt had what’s called a “cross sign” from another CA, but that has now expired.

Older Android users can access Let’s Encrypt sites by using Firefox for Android which includes Let’s Encrypt, or by installing our root CA on their device. I cannot offer support on how to do that, as it differs by device and version of Android.

That is a very old and unsupported version of Android, I suggest getting a new more secure device.

Support status

  • Android 5.0: Unsupported as of November 4, 2017
  • Android 5.1: Unsupported as of March 1, 2018

Since Sept 2021, when the old DST Root CA X3 root expired. If you haven't noticed by now then surely it's not a problem.
