Is there a way to reset a rate limit after fixing an issue

Please fill out the fields below so we can help you better. Note: you must provide your domain name to get help. Domain names for issued certificates are all made public in Certificate Transparency logs (e.g. https://crt.sh/?q=example.com), so withholding your domain name here does not increase secrecy, but only makes it harder for us to provide help.

My domain is: Many

Our company provides SSL certificates for a few hundred thousand domain names on our platform. Recently, due to a bad database upgrade, we ended up making too many requests to the LE API and running over our rate limit. Is there any way to reset a rate limit after we've fixed our issue so that we get a fresh quota sooner than however long it takes to roll over the rate limit naturally?

Hi @paulski,

Nope, there is no way to reset that.

The information about Let's Encrypt rate limits is at

including the times for various rate limits to reset.

Depending on the particular rate limit that you hit, there might be workarounds possible; you could also consider doing your current issuance from a different certificate authority that supports ACME.

No. The ISRG/LetsEncrypt team doesn't have tools or resources to do this, and are not interested in doing this. Their advice has always been to test extensively and avoid these scenarios.

Have you applied for an increased rate limit?

Which rate limit did you exceed?
How long is the natural expiration?
