Domain certificate from www.noip.com

Hello,
i have done mx. a record on my domain “mydomain.no.ip.com” and the IP address is my fixed public IP modem. At home, the mail server is running.

And is it possible to activate (set up) a certificate for my use?

mail server I have access to https.

Thank you

NOIP.com does NOT appear to be on the PSL
Although you may be able to get certs for that domain you will be challenged by many others for the very few certs that are allowed (only 20 per domain per week).

You should review the PSL and see if you can obtain a name from one of the domains already on the list.

PSL here referring to the Public Suffix List, a list of domains where the owners of each have asserted that subdomains are in use by various members of the public.

You can also, of course, purchase your own domain name and avoid these issues altogether.

...or even get one for free from freenom.com (and possibly other places).

I think the OP may have meant to write no-ip.com (with a dash). They are listed on the Public Suffix List and many people have obtained certificates for their no-ip.com domains.

EDIT: I did notice that they run their corporate website on noip.com but host customer domains on no-ip.com, which is definitely confusing. If you tried to get a certificate and failed it might be because you forgot the dash (-).

I have forgotten to add that at no-ip.com my tariff is free.
and it does not seem to support https encryption :frowning:

But I do not have webhosting. Just done redirect to my home IP and MX record on my mail server. Also at home.

Does your home IP have port 80 blocked? e.g. can you access http://username.no-ip.com/ directly or do you have to use to use a weird port like http://username.no-ip.com:8080/?

I don’t see no-ip.com on the PSL.
Can you provide a link to the list that contains it?

NO-IP.com does have many domains on the PSL.
Like: ddns.net, hopto.org
But not the NO-IP.com domain.

So, just to confirm:
@Ondrej2005 What is the actual domain you are using?
If you don’t care to share the FQDN, that is OK.
Just reply with the domain name.

I don't believe that's correct. No-IP has several other TLDs, but their .com is not there:

# cat public_suffix_list.dat | grep -i 'no-ip'
// No-IP.com : https://noip.com/
no-ip.ca
no-ip.co.uk
no-ip.net
no-ip.biz
no-ip.info
no-ip.org

Hi,
my domain is mydomain.sytes.net

sytes.net is indeed listed on the Public Suffix List, so you should not experience any rate limit issues.

Now we just need to know whether your ISP blocks port 80 (see my last post) to know whether you need to verify your domain ownership via HTTP or DNS.

Hello to everybody.
Solved.

  1. I installed XAMPP, apache with an open 443 port.
  2. Then, using https://youtu.be/lqAwcc_w9zI?t=2m1s, I generated a file that I then saved to the apache server
  3. Online applications have verified. I downloaded the certificate and imported it into my private mail server.
  4. I am working on a certified SSL certificate that has platsnot only 3 months but better than nothing. Super

Glad to hear that!
Now you just need to work on automating the process.

rg305: Yes you are right. 3 Months is a short time :frowning:
From automation it probably will not happen in my case. I will have to repeat the request manually.

I’m still trying to make apache2 with https and FTP for Raspberry PI3.
