Although that seems correct to a human, it might be problematic for others.
I'd try it with just the csr
file.

Hmmm. I used their exact command and csr with snap's certbot 1.24 and it worked fine (post #14). And Osiris tried a variation earlier and it worked. Even if omitting -d worked with jonansell's homebrew 1.23 install I'm not sure it would be "right"
Update:
Just an update.. certbot 1.24 just came out for homebrew and seems to have fixed whatever was wrong.
i was able to use:
sudo certbot certonly --manual --preferred-challenges dns
to create the test certs.
i have a slight issue with 1 DNS returning the wrong cert, but i'll start a new thread for that.
