cpanel is moving towards using Let's Encrypt for their Auto SSL. I have 160 domains listed under one account and with a regular setup it can't be ran due to the 100 domain limit. Is there a way to have this set up in order to request under a 100 each time so I can get SSL's for all 160?
Hi @Bruce5051, I have been chatting with their support and that's how I ended up here. Hopefully someone can give me some direction on how to get this figured out because the certificates that are issued end in a few weeks.
I'm not sure what they'd expect from this Community though? Do they expect that the volunteers here know more about how to configure AutoSSL than the people who developed AutoSSL? That would be a very strange world..
If they expect that Let's Encrypt increases their limit of 100 hostnames per cert: not gonna happen.
A related problem we have seen is a bug in AutoSSL when switching from Sectigo to Let's Encrypt.
See below thread for how to reset your registration should this happen to you. I know the title is about 25 domains but the solution related to the switch in CA's
Maybe you won't be affected but thought I'd mention it just in case
I agree: this functionality most likely requires code to be changed in cPanel. Let's Encrypt can't do anything extra to support it or bring it about (other than a policy change).
@bran I'm guessing a common existing workaround would be to intentionally split your account into two accounts, with (say) 80 domains in each, and then otherwise configure each domain as you do now.
Also, making certificates with very large numbers of domain names can be risky, just because your software might not be able to complete a renewal if even a single one of the names on the certificate fails to renew. That's especially tricky if you're hosting or managing any of those domains on behalf of someone else, who might forget to renew the domain name or decide to point it somewhere else, causing the certificate renewal to fail. If you can get cPanel to request smaller certificates with fewer names overall, that might increase the reliability of your setup.
