IMHO, using nginx is better than using NPM.

That said, if you are doing DNS-01 authentication, the web service is irrelevant [for cert renewals].
All that matters is using an ACME client that supports your DSP [DNS Service Provider = CloudFlare].

I'm unsure of how to do it. I'm also using pfSense. Should I think about running HAProxy/ACME instead?
