Website page not displaying after cert install / LSB: Bitnami Init Script failed

Please fill out the fields below so we can help you better. Note: you must provide your domain name to get help. Domain names for issued certificates are all made public in Certificate Transparency logs (e.g. crt.sh | example.com), so withholding your domain name here does not increase secrecy, but only makes it harder for us to provide help.

My domain is:

I ran this command:

  • systemctl status bitnami.service

It produced this output:

● bitnami.service - LSB: Bitnami Init Script
Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/bitnami; bad; vendor preset: enabled)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Thu 2023-03-30 14:25:29 UTC; 2h 55min ago

Mar 30 14:25:29 xxxx systemd[1]: bitnami.service: Unit entered failed state.
Mar 30 14:25:29 xxxx systemd[1]: bitnami.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

I ran this command:

  • systemctl start bitnami.service

It produced this output:

  • Job for bitnami.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status bitnami.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

I ran this command:

  • sudo /opt/bitnami/ctlscript.sh status

It produced this output:

apache not running
tomcat already running
mysql already running

My web server is (include version): Tomcat

The operating system my web server runs on is (include version):

Ubuntu 16

My hosting provider, if applicable, is:

I can login to a root shell on my machine (yes or no, or I don't know):

  • I use MobaXterm

I'm using a control panel to manage my site (no, or provide the name and version of the control panel):

The version of my client is (e.g. output of certbot --version or certbot-auto --version if you're using Certbot):

  • certbot 0.27.0

Hmm. I see a webpage from your domain. It is a default page for Apache

And, I see you got a cert two days ago and it is being used by this Apache server. So, I'm not sure what problem there is with the cert.

Did you run the above two commands? What did they say?

As an aside, Ubuntu 16 is fairly old and Certbot 0.27 is very very old. You should consider updating although it probably isn't causing whatever problem this is. See https://certbot.eff.org for update instructions.

Also see this SSL Test site showing a valid cert from Apache right now

Well, I don't see any errors that look related to a Let's Encrypt cert. Why do you think this problem is related to your cert from two days ago?

You might try asking about this on a Bitnami forum.

Could this possibly get any more complicated ? ? ?

The file is blank. Nothing is inside it :frowning:

Apache2 Ubuntu Default Page is displaying in my web browser instead of the actual webpage for https://share.cnic-n9portal.net/

I noticed that when I run the following commands:

sudo systemctl stop apache2
sudo systemctl disable apache2

Followed by:

sudo /opt/bitnami/ctlscript.sh restart

My website comes back up successfully:

https://share.cnic-n9portal.net/

This leads me to believe Apche2 somewhere might be interfering with the setup?

There may be multiple versions of Apache [or flavors of that].

This was seen earlier:

But now shows:
Server: Apache

I had just completed a fresh reinstall via Certbot if that makes sense?

certbot doesn't have anything to do with that.

Do I need to delete a version of Apache? Is there a way I can confirm if there are duplicates that might be causing an issue?

I ran this below (if this helps to bring clarification):

sudo apachectl -t -D DUMP_VHOSTS

Results:

VirtualHost configuration:
*:80 share.cnic-n9portal.net (/opt/bitnami/apache2/conf/bitnami/bitnami.conf:8)
*:443 share.cnic-n9portal.net (/opt/bitnami/apache2/conf/bitnami/bitnami.conf:62)

Yes, but I'm afraid I don't have any knowledge of your system to provide you with guidance on that.
