After to add an SSL to your website and then add the new URL to Google and Bing, do you normally delete the http:// version in the tools?

wait some months. I use the webmaster tools only with https sites, so I've never added the http version.
But if you have startet with a http version, so should see that the traffic of the http goes down.
If not, there may be an error in your site.
- missing redirects http -> https
- wrong redirects (sample subfolder to /)
- missing preferred version (non-www or www)
It's important to define the preferred version with a correct redirect, not only in the webmaster tools.
