Renewed certificate at Certificate URI

I am working with letsencrypt java client , does letsencrypt automatically renew the certificates and place them at the initially provided certificate URI or i have to send a new request and get a fresh certificate always to renew my certificate.
When i am trying to get the renewed certificate from the URI , i get the old certificate even after the expiry.
And what is the present domain authorization validity?

Let’s Encrypt does not automatically renew certificates once they get close to expiring; clients need to request a new certificate (POST to the new-cert resource), and the certificate will be provided under a new URI.

Authorizations created today are valid for 90 days (used to be 10 months). There are plans to make the expiration period even shorter (e.g. 7 days), so the best approach would be to assume you’ll need to pass a new challenge for each renewal.

Thank you for clarifying
