"Pre-Service" Questions

Please fill out the fields below so we can help you better. Note: you must provide your domain name to get help. Domain names for issued certificates are all made public in Certificate Transparency logs (e.g. https://crt.sh/?q=example.com), so withholding your domain name here does not increase secrecy, but only makes it harder for us to provide help.

Hey people! I have a few questions:

I own a website called TheLocalnessNYC.com

Its actually domain mapped to https://TheLocalnessness.com/newyork

The server (I use namecheap) uses cPanel and I DO have shell access.

  1. My server is on Namecheap. While there are several threads that I have found on your site, which is the thread YOU would recommend in terms of “Getting Started w/ LetsEncrypt and Namecheap?”

  2. What is the purchase/registration limit for SSLs? I literally have 113 domains all like TheLocalnessNYC.com (such as TheLocalnessLA.com, TheLocalnessMiami.com, TheLocalnessVegas.com and so forth) and all of them need SSLs. How many different LetsEncrypt SSLs can I acquire? Is there an amount limit or bandwidth limit (though I doubt that there is a bandwidth limit as it doesnt seem applicable)?

Thank you,

  • E

Hi @efromdc

Letsencrypt certificates are free, but only 90 days valide. There are limits (5 identical certificates per week per domain, max. 50 different certificates per week per domain), but if you have a lot of domains, this isn't a problem.

But you need a client to automate that. So start there:

Then select a client.

hey - I appreciate the reply. I'm about to look at the two links you provided, but briefly, I've seen lots of "Namecheap" issues about LE and their hosting - do one of those two threads you posted contain something like a "dummies guy to LE and Namecheap?" - Im a laymen so I need a bit of hand holding

Thanks for your reply and its REALLY appreciated!

Oh - and after 90 days, I have to renew them, correct?

Mods: If you feel the need to move this into any type of “getting started” / “new members” type of forum or if Ive posted this in the wrong place, no problem and thank you - @eFromDC

If you have shell access, this should be completely irrelevant. Then you can manage your own server.

Shared hosting has general limitations (with every hoster). But shell access - then you can use cPanel or your own client.

Yes.

Since you are using NameCheap with cPanel hosting. Try acme.sh, which works perfectly in those cPanel environment.

Thank you

I appreciate the hand holding everyone…!
