I don't think the spec makes any guarantees about the availability of objects past their expiration date. So while a cert might be valid for 90 days, the order might expire (and be deleted from the database by the ACME CA) before then.
If this was an order from the Staging environment and the expiration date for the order hadn't actually occurred yet, it's likely due to the wipe that happened recently.
