LetsEncrypt certificate in combination with other wildcard subdomain certificate wild

Using certbot on Ubuntu I can’t get a certificate for the domain a.io (hundreds of other certificates are working perfectly on the same server and setup).

The log file states:

Domain: a.io
Type:   unknownHost
Detail: No valid IP addresses found for a.io

The www a records of this domain have been set to our server correct (according to intodns).

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

www.a.io has an A record but a.io does not. You need to add it, or use DNS-01 validation.
