What is the difference between sudo apt-get install ca-certificates certbot
and simply sudo apt-get install certbot
?
Ultimately, I want to create standalone certificates in a ubuntu virtual machine that is not yet running a webserver.

I think certbot
probably depends on ca-certificates
, so the two commands are practically identical.
thanks, I see ca-certificates
is a package itself -> Debian -- Details of package ca-certificates in sid
I am using 20.04 and never needed ca-certificates and only used snap to get my site certificates done, then the bugs with my server to get it past the http 500 nonsense
