I use a website monitoring tool which reported that the domain [g3vcg.org.uk](http://g3vcg.org.uk) had an out of date SSL certificate. On checking it seems somehow I'd deleted snap on the server, so no certificates were renewing. That's now fixed.

Does Let's encrypt send a message when certificates are not renewing? If so, are mine sent to a gmail address or a [kirkbymicrowave.co.uk](http://kirkbymicrowave.co.uk) address? I use the latter far more, but might have used the former for a certificate or two. I did not notice any emails, but I get so many emails that it's possible i overlooked it.

Let's Encrypt doesn't send out account-specific emails themselves (though you can [sign up for their newsletters](https://letsencrypt.org/contact/#subscribe-to-our-newsletter) for general updates). They do have documentation linking to some monitoring systems you may want to explore, but you may want to see if whatever website monitoring tool you're already using has options for alerting for close-to-expiration certificates as well.

> Being able to monitor TLS certificate status is helpful for many of our subscribers. Monitoring services can assist with things like expiration notifications and keeping an eye out for unwanted issuance.
> Let’s Encrypt can recommend Red Sift...

Not any more since mid 2025 to be exact. @drkirkby See [Support Ended for Expiration Notification Emails](https://community.letsencrypt.org/t/support-ended-for-expiration-notification-emails/238173) for more info.

If you are OK with self hosting you can use this bash script with a web based GUI. [Web GUI Self Hosted TLS SSL Monitoring Notification Bash Script](https://saudiqbal.github.io/Linux/Web-GUI-Self-Hosted-TLS-SSL-Monitoring-Notification-Bash-Script.html)

You can modify the script to get email or curl api call to your favorite text messaging service.
