# Donating via Bitcoin

Hi,

Is it possible to donate to lets encrypt via bitcoin? I could only find the paypal option on the site.

It is possible to donate Bitcoins to Mozilla or EFF, two of the organizations that helped to create Let’s Encrypt:

These organizations still have staff who are contributing to aspects of the Let’s Encrypt project and so donations to them could also indirectly benefit Let’s Encrypt. _However_, both organizations also have many other program areas and there’s no way to direct a contribution to Let’s Encrypt-related purposes only, so your contribution would also fund other activities.

ISRG, which operates the certificate authority service, needs financial support to pay its own expenses as described in

and contributions to Mozilla or EFF won’t cover those expenses – only contributions to ISRG will do that.
