Correlation between domain-level and account-level Certificates per Registered Domain rate limitation

Hello Let's Encrypt community,

When requesting a rate limit increase for Certificates per Registered Domain it is possible to specify domain(s) or account(s) to be updated, for example:

  • it is possible to request the increase for example.com
  • it is possible to request the increase for ACME account with ID 123456789.

I'm wondering what is the effect of having a custom Certificates per Registered Domain rate limit configuration for both a domain and an account. Let's say example.com has the limit set to 1k and I'm using an account that has its limit set to 500. Does this mean that I can generate only 500 certificates for *.example.com domains with that account?

Additionally, let's say I have three accounts and all of them has the limit set to 500. Does this mean that I can generate 1000 certificates for *.example.com domains in total with the three accounts, but none of the accounts can generate more than 500 certificates for *.example.com domains?

Thanks for all the help in advance!
