Certbot Nginx Timeout w/ DDNS/NameCheap -- Port 80/443 Open

#1

Hi,

I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out what’s causing this and am at a loss.

I have DDNS setup through namecheap -> tomato router -> computer.
I’m using their “A+ Dynamic DNS Record” and I also tried just a standard A Record.
Port 80 and 443 are definitely publicly accessible (not blocked by ISP or anything). example

Thanks for any help!

My domain is:

www.atomsandbits.ai
playground.atomsandbits.ai

I ran this command:

sudo certbot --test-cert --nginx

It produced this output:

2018/07/17 22:33:26 [notice] 13086#13086: signal process started
Failed authorization procedure. www.atomsandbits.ai (http-01): urn:ietf:params:acme:error:connection :: The server could not connect to the client to verify the domain :: Fetching http://www.atomsandbits.ai/.well-known/acme-challenge/OzT1sDCNwUjDLePW-RHGRDV7_zxuY9p2K1li7XCQAko: Timeout during connect (likely firewall problem), playground.atomsandbits.ai (http-01): urn:ietf:params:acme:error:connection :: The server could not connect to the client to verify the domain :: Fetching http://playground.atomsandbits.ai/.well-known/acme-challenge/BkeiBE6Qt6-OAqg1DhH5lwGyAx_MIUHyN6PydmQ5p40: Timeout during connect (likely firewall problem)

IMPORTANT NOTES:
 - The following errors were reported by the server:

   Domain: www.atomsandbits.ai
   Type: connection
   Detail: Fetching

To fix these errors, please make sure that your domain name was
entered correctly and the DNS A/AAAA record(s) for that domain
contain(s) the right IP address. Additionally, please check that
your computer has a publicly routable IP address and that no
firewalls are preventing the server from communicating with the
client. If you're using the webroot plugin, you should also verify
that you are serving files from the webroot path you provided.
 - Your account credentials have been saved in your Certbot
configuration directory at /etc/letsencrypt. You should make a
secure backup of this folder now. This configuration directory will
also contain certificates and private keys obtained by Certbot so
making regular backups of this folder is ideal.

My web server is (include version):

no

I can’t access them.

Is the IP address, 142.151.170.244, correct?

Have you double checked that the firewall and (if necessary) port forwarding are all correct?

Wow. I’m hosting from a dorm and didn’t realize that it just wasn’t accessible from outside of the school network (I tried on a few different school networks/locations).
Seems port 80 and 443 must be externally blocked for the whole campus. :frowning:

Thanks so much for the help!
